Chasi: I Don't Know When Fuel Crisis Will End

Energy and Power Development Minister Fortune Chasi said he does not know when the fuel crisis will come to an end.

Chasi said this while responding to a question by MDC Midlands Senator Lilian Timveos who had asked what the government was doing to end the fuel crisis. He said:

I don’t know when it (fuel crisis) is going to end. We have serious shortages of foreign currency in the country.

I would able to know when the foreign currency is available and this is the correct position.

Zimbabwe has been experiencing erratic fuel supplies since the end of October last year.

Currently, the country consumes about 70,2 million litres of diesel and 47,5 million litres of petrol per month.

The government, through the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA), has been increasing the price of fuel on a weekly basis in line with the precipitous fall in the value of the Zimbabwe dollar.
