Police Defy High Court Judge, Blocks Dr Magombeyi From Leaving Avenues Clinic

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has defied an order by High Court judge, Justice Happias Zhou to allow Dr Peter Magombeyi to fly to South Africa to access specialist medical care.

The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) has its lawyers at Avenues Clinic in Harare were Dr Magombeyi, acting president of the Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association (ZHDA) has been admitted since he was found last. In a statement of Twitter, ZLHR said:

Happening Now: At Avenues Clinic, ZRP currently preventing @ZHDAofficial leader @DMagombeyi from leaving the medical facility to board a plane to South Africa to access specialist medical care in defiance of a High Court order issued Tuesday by Justice Happias Zhou.

Dr Magombeyi was abducted from his Budiriro home more than a week ago and spent five days in the hands of his captors. He was dumped in Nyabira, about 34 kilometres north-west of Harare.

There are suspicions that he could have been injected with an unknown substance, hence the need for further medical care in South Africa.
