NSSA has started the process of consulting stakeholders in preparation for reviewing pension payouts, The Sunday Mail reports. This was revealed by the NSSA marketing and communications executive Tendai Mutseyekwa who communicated with the publication and said come professional research and consultations were currently underway before the payouts were reviewed upwards.
Mr Mutseyekwa said:
Recent developments in the economy have negatively impacted on the pension increase that was under consideration, hence, the decision to conduct another actuarial valuation.
The actuarial valuation, which is being conducted by consultants, will guide NSSA in determining the level of benefits reviews, taking into account the long term sustainability of the schemes. The first draft of the report is expected to be presented to NSSA by the end of September 2019
NSSA has been rocked by scandals ever since an audit unearthed some criminal elements in their operations. Former tourism minister Prisca Mupfumira was arrested and is still awaiting trial over siphoning $95 million of NSSA’s money to some shoddy deals. Another Minister Petronella Kagonye is also at the center of a scandal brewing at NSSA as she made 2 personal car demands from NSSA among other things.
