ZACC Investigates By-Elections Vote-Buying Allegations

The Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission is reportedly investigating allegations of vote-buying in the recently held by-elections.

The probe comes after the opposition MDC led by advocate Nelson Chamisa claimed that the ruling ZANU PF was using state resources to influence voters ahead of or during elections particularly in Lupane East and Glen View South by-elections.

MDC Secretary-General, Chalton Hwende told News Day that his party was pleased by the development after inaction by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission. He said:

We are happy that Zacc has shown interest in investigating the allegations of vote-buying that have been the order of the day in the recent by-elections. In Lupane East, ministers connived to release medicines for campaign purposes and we raised these issues, but the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) did not act.

Hwende said that abusing State resources for political mileage was tantamount to corruption hence the interference of ZACC is justified.
