Land Dispute Between 2 Housing Cooperatives Leave 45 Families Homeless

A land dispute between two Housing Cooperatives left 45 families homeless in Crowborough, Harare.

ZBC News reports that members of Limpopo cooperative hired bulldozers and demolished 45 houses belonging to Kutonga Kwevatema housing cooperative following the wrangle.

Speaking to ZBC News, one affected mother called upon the City Council to either regularise their stay or allocate them another piece of land. She said:

We were allocated these stands about five years ago, but we are surprised that leaders of this cooperative Limpopo are destroying are properties, we paid a lot of money to acquire these stands.

Another affected member appealed to the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) to investigate the people behind these demolitions saying that there was massive corruption which was now affecting innocent people.

Zanu PF Youth Chairperson for Warren Park District, Voyage Dambuza appealed to local authorities to take a holistic approach and assist the affected families. He said that it was clear that they were duped by land barons but the local government authority needed to chip in and assist them.

ZBC News also reports that it is alleged that Limpompo Cooperative was granted a High Court order to evict the affected families who reportedly fell victim to land barons.
