U.S. “Deeply Troubled” Over Dr Magombeyi’s Continued Disappearance

The United States of America says it is deeply troubled by the continued missing of Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association (ZHDA) president Peter Magombeyi. In a statement on Twitter, the US embassy in Harare said:

Dr Peter Magombeyi is still missing. His continued disappearance is deeply troubling. Our prayers are with his family, friends and co-workers. #BringBackDrPeter

Meanwhile, a Member of Parliament in the United Kingdom, Andrew Stephenson, who represents Pendle in the House of Commons says the continuing trend of abductions in Zimbabwe is worrying. He also wrote on Twitter:

Deeply concerned for Dr Peter Magombeyi, who has been missing since Saturday, and hasn’t been found. The continuing trend of abductions in Zimbabwe is unacceptable.

Government of Zimbabwe must intensify efforts to find him and hold those responsible to account #BringbackDrPeter

Dr Magombeyi was abducted from his Budiriro home on Saturday night at around 10 pm. He had been advocating for an improvement in doctors’ working conditions.

He received several threating messages before he was abducted. One of the messages warned him that he would soon be “swept away by a whirlwind”.
