Bulawayo Man Who “Fatally Assaulted” His Son Is Set Free After Investigations Reveal Otherwise

A man from Sizinda suburb in Bulawayo who last week was reported to have fatally assaulted his son in a fit of rage has been released from police custody following the findings of the postmortem that was conducted to determine the cause of the Form 2 pupil ‘s death. The postmortem report revealed that the boy died from consuming a poisonous substance.

Bulawayo Acting Police Spokesperson confirmed Phiri’s release from custody:

What we have is information obtained through a post-mortem report whose findings concluded that the boy died from consuming a poisonous substance. There were no visible marks that he could have been assaulted. Even the police officers who attended the scene did not observe any marks pointing to the fact that he was assaulted. However, we are still investigating a case of sudden death. At the moment his father has been released from police custody

However, Joseph Phiri’s neighbours boycotted Adam’s funeral as they believed Joseph killed his son. Those who attended the funeral refused to eat the food prepared for mourners as per custom.
