Anti Gukurahundi Group Not Happy With ED's Decision To Build Mugabe A Mausoleum

A Bulawayo pressure group has expressed its concern regarding the President’s decision to build a mausoleum for former president Mugabe who died on  6 September 2019. Ibhetshu Likazulu, a Bulawayo based pressure group advocating for Gukurahundi victims’ reparation, criticized the president’s decision of building a shrine for the late former president while Gukurahundi victims remain unburied.

Calling the shrine unnecessary, the pressure group leader Mbuso Fuzwayo said it’s unfortunate that we as Africans prioritise a person over a nation:

It is unfortunate that we Africans prioritise an individual over a nation. When Mugabe was alive, a lot of money was spent on him and his family at the expense of the suffering masses especially those who were affected by Gukurahundi.

It is embarrassing that 36 years after independence, nothing has been done to compensate and improve their lives yet the government continues to pamper Mugabe with unnecessary things in his death.

We have got a lot of Gukurahundi victims who are not yet buried. For example, at Bhalagwe we have a whole disused mine shaft with thousands of Gukurahundi victims. Why not build a mausoleum for those people

Fuzwayo is one of some Zimbabweans who were not happy with the decision to built a mausoleum for the late former leader. Mugabe will be buried after the mausoleum is completed.
