190 Rural Teachers Resigned In August Over Poor Salaries – Report

Amalgamated Rural Teachers Association received 190 resignation letters from teachers in August over poor salaries The Daily News reports. This was revealed by the ARTUZ president Obert Masaraure who said:

We have received 190 messages of resignation from teachers since the beginning of August. These are our members who have notified us of their resignation and most of them have gone abroad while some of them are doing various jobs around towns to sustain their families.

Masaraure said the situation has to be addressed soon to save the education sector from collapsing. He called for an urgent meeting to dialogue and delibarate over how to save the sector from collapsing:

We urgently call for a stakeholder meeting to come up with ways to address the challenges that are bedevilling the education sector. We cannot afford to lose teachers to other nations as this will have a large bearing on our education sector.

Masaraure also said some members had gone abroad and some were doing various projects in Zimbabwe to sustain their families.
