ZIFA Seeks To Appoint Mapeza Warriors Coach - Report

Former FC Platinum coach, Norman Mapeza, is reportedly being lined up for the Warriors job by the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA).

NewsDay reports that ZIFA will move for Mapeza in January 2020 when he plans to return to football management, having taken a sabbatical from football.

Joey Antipas was appointed Warriors coach on a caretaker basis after the sudden resignation of Sunday Chidzambga. His tenure ends in December, possibly opening the way for Mapeza to take over. A NewsDay source is quoted as saying:

He is very popular with the current executive and was their preferred choice to take over when Sunday Chidzambga resigned.

They engaged him then, but he would not leave his job. FC Platinum was also not comfortable with their coach doubling as the national team coach because of the workload he already had.

They argued he had a huge workload because of the Caf Champions League games. Now that he has left, Zifa will engage him as soon as possible before he gets other good offers from elsewhere.
