The late former President Robert Mugabe’s corpse was embalmed to last for five years before it was flown to Harare from Singapore on Wednesday, Zim Morning Post reports.
A family source reportedly said that the body can last for five years without being taken to a cold room. Said the source:
The body was prepared and can last for five years in that state.
We knew it was going to take long to determine his final resting place so we had to be ready for that.
We also knew that we wanted the body to lie in state at his Blue Roof until the day we are going to lay him to rest.
That is why the body has never been taken to a morgue or local funeral parlour.
There was a lot of haggling between the government and the Mugabe family with the two parties finally agreeing to a National Heroes Acre burial for the late national hero.
The family demanded the erection of a mausoleum at the Heroes Acre, a process that will likely take 30 days.
