Doctors To Continue Striking Until Demands Are Met - ZHDA

Juniors doctors at public health facilities have vowed to continue with industrial action until the government meets their salary demands.

Speaking during a post-cabinet media briefing on Tuesday, Information minister Monica Mutsvangwa said that Health minister Obadiah Moyo and Finance minister Mthuli Ncube had been tasked with dealing with the issues raised by the striking doctors. She said:

Cabinet noted that the junior doctors had already been awarded a cost of living adjustment of 60 per cent and directed the minister of Health and Child Care, together with the minister of Finance and Economic Development, to urgently look into the outstanding issue of the review of their health-related allowances so as to bring back normalcy to the health sector.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association (ZHDA) vice president Dean Ndoro, speaking to the Daily News, revealed that doctors are open to negotiations with the government. He said:

We are open for negotiations, but whatever the outcome doctors have to be in agreement with the government. We will only report to work after our demands have been met.
