The family of the late President Robert Mugabe will reveal the place of burial of the national hero after her widow, Grace Mugabe arrives from Singapore on Wednesday.
The Daily News reports that it was informed of the decision on Monday night by one of Mugabe’s relatives;
The decision regarding the announcement pertaining where he (Mugabe) will be buried will be announced once his remains arrive from Singapore.
His widow will be arriving in Harare on Wednesday afternoon and that’s when an official statement from the family will be issued, to inform the nation where Gushungo will be buried.
Chairperson of the Gushungo clan’s committee that is overseeing the funeral, Philip Chiyangwa, said that family spokesperson, Leo Mugabe, will issue a statement on Wednesday. Said Chiyangwa:
Leo is the family spokesperson and he will issue a statement on Wednesday once the body has arrived.
Right now we are focusing on having the remains of the former president in the country. That’s where we are at the moment.
On his part, Leo said that the chiefs will have the final word regarding Mugabe’s final resting place. He said:
We are all waiting for word from the local chiefs on where he will be buried. The chiefs are not happy with the way people are talking about his burial. Madzimambo haanzwaro (chiefs should not be trifled with).
A local online publication on Monday reported that after marathon meetings between government officials and the Mugabe clan at Munhumutapa offices, a decision was made that Mugabe will be buried at the National Heroes Acre.
