Graduates Challenged To Forsake 'Colonial Mentality'

The Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development, Amon Murwira has urged graduates from local universities and colleges to move away from the “colonial mentality” of looking for jobs and to become entrepreneurs.

Speaking at a graduation ceremony held at Masvingo Polytechnic College, Murwira said:

I now urge you all to question and debunk this job conundrum or job confusion. Of course, we have to organise ourselves into consortia or companies to profit from economies of scale.

Therefore, our formula for prosperity from employment and job creation is skills applied to fulfil human needs using a business model based on a loan facility.

Callisto Muzongondi, the Principal of Masvingo Polytechnic College said that the institution has embraced the Education 5.0 philosophy to produce artisans, technicians, technologists and entrepreneurs. He said:

It is our conviction as an institution that it is through collaborative research, innovation and industrialisation that we can meaningfully contribute to the country’s bid to attain an upper-middle economy status by 2030.

A total of 803 students graduated at the institution. 398 were male while 405 were females.
