"ZANU PF Disowned Mugabe," Alex Magaisa

Dr Alex Tawanda Magaisa, a Zimbabwean lawyer and lecturer of law in the United Kingdom has claimed that ZANU PF disowned Zimbabwe’s founding leader, the late Robert Mugabe.

Mugabe was fired from the ruling party during the military coup in November 2017 which toppled him from power. He was replaced by his long-time apprentice, President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Magaisa notes that the party went on to remove the “CDE” title which is a sign of inclusion in the party.

He added that it is ironical that ZANU PF is now trying to reclaim his body when they rejected him and associated him with the opposition MDC Alliance in a bid to make him a sellout. Magaisa added:

Ever the calculating and cunning one who always saw farther than most of his peers, he had foreseen how they would try to make political capital out of his death. We were told he had signalled his intention not to be buried at the National Heroes Acre, the site of internment for those they declare to be heroes of the nation.

The former adviser to MDC’s late founding father and former Prime Minister of Zimbabwe, Morgan Tsvangirai, further opined that the treatment Mugabe is receiving from the party he helped found shows how divided Zimbabweans are about his legacy.

Magaisa claims that some revere Mugabe whilst some found him monstrous.
