Stir Over Chalton Hwende’s Tweet On Zimbabwe’s Former President Robert Mugabe

Social media users have expressed mixed feelings on the tweet of opposition MDC Secretary-General, Chalton Hwende. Hwende posted his eulogy on Twitter praising late Zimbabwe’s founding leader, Robert Mugabe for liberating the nation from “racist colonial oppressors”. He said:

You liberated us from the racists colonial oppressers RIP RG

Below are some of the responses to Hwende’s tweet. Steve  @SteveZwitter said:

Others said that the racists Hwende was referring to included MDC Treasurer-General, David Coltart. One Twitter user, Wag Wan @mun_tob  replied to Hwende’s Tweet and said that Mugabe freed Zimbabwe:

Hwende was adamant that Mugabe liberated the nation from imperialists. Replying to said:

From white oppressors yes but oppressed by a new crop of black dictators

Vana Hwende trying to be politically correct. He needs to be reminded of how many MDC people where killed by the ruthless Mugabe regime

Generally, there are divided opinions over the legacy of Mugabe. Some analysts believe the veteran leader destroyed his own legacy by his deeds after independence. Mugabe was accused of violating human and for presiding over a failed economy.

  1. Chalton Hwende did the right thing. He is demonstrating statesmanship. At least he now sees the shallow-mindedness of most of the people who supports his party. On this one, Mr Hwende is spot-on! Nothing can take away the good things that Mugabe for our nation, but we must not absolve him of the mistakes he made. MHSRIP.
