“Arresting Perpetrators Of Violence In SA Is Not Enough”

Daily News editor has urged South Africa president, Cyril Ramaphosa to take decisive action on the violence that broke out last week in that country.

The editor notes that arresting perpetrators alone was not enough in curbing the crisis that has been recurring in South Africa almost on a yearly basis.

The publication observes the significance of prevalence of peace to trade in the region. It notes that the Beitbridge border, for instance, connects South Africa to its trade partners including Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and even further.

Therefore, uncontained violence can force neighbouring countries to retaliate violently, and or by shutting down South Africa trade routes.

These remarks come as reports suggest that South Africa nationals are targeting foreigners working in that country as well as foreign-owned businesses.

The publication also notes that the violence is uncalled for and is not fair considering how fellow African states suffered immensely as they tried to assist South Africa to get independence from an apartheid government.

South Africa police announced on Monday that they had arrested more than 60 people in connection with violence, vandalism of property and looting.

Daily News notes that it was now time Ramaphosa acted.
