South Africa police have arrested more than 60 people in connection with violent demonstrations and looting that rocked Johannesburg Central Business District on Monday.
The police said that protestors were burning shops, cars and buildings in the CBD.
The chaos is said to have started on Sunday after a building caught fire and collapsed, killing three people.
They also come after an unidentified association representing local truck drivers announced that it was going to start protests over preference given to foreign workers by some truck owners.
Truck drivers blocked several main roads including one leading to Richards Bay Harbour, one of the deepest natural harbours in Africa.
The violence has attracted comments from other African states with Nigeria threatening to take “definitive measures” after shops belonging to Nigerians were also burnt.
