MDC Take A Step Back On Demonstrations
@mdczimbabwe The MDC plans to intensify the people-led Free Zimbabwe Campaign The people’s party will take a step back this week and call for progress review consultation meetings with the intention of boosting the already existing efforts under the Free Zimbabwe Campaign.
The meetings come at a time when the party had announced plans to hold nationwide, more vibrant and far-reaching demonstrations.
The developments also come after the State blocked all of the MDC demonstrations that were scheduled to begin on the 16th of August in Harare.
Police said that the prohibition orders were issued after gathering concrete evidence suggesting that the demonstrations were going to be violent.
The ban on protests has been criticised by the international community and human rights watchdogs who describe it as an attack on democracy since it infringes citizens of their constitutional rights and freedoms including the right of association and freedom of speech.

MDC supporters and other citizens who viewed the MDC cause as noble had warmed up to the demonstrations.
The opposition party argues that it initiated the demonstrations because of the socio-economic and political crises bedevilling the country.
The party says the ruling ZANU PF has to blame because it mishandled state resources and also manipulated the results of 2018 elections in favour of “losing” president Mnangagwa.
