Jim Kunaka In Court For Assaulting & Robbing Mugabe's Security Detail

Former ZANU PF youth leader, Jim Kunaka has appeared in court for reportedly assaulting and stealing from a member of former Robert Mugabe’s Presidential Guard.

It is alleged that after Kunaka assaulted Dennis Mupfungidza, a soldier seconded to the Presidential Guard, he proceeded to search the complainant and stole valuables worth US$835.

The court heard that Kunaka was part of the of a welcome party for Mugabe at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport as he returned from a trip to New York when the incident took place.

The State alleged that Kunaka pproached his victim in company of other ZANU PF youths and said that he was on national duty.

Kunaka who thought Mupfungidza was a civilian, allegedly started beating his victim and other ZANU PF youths joined in the assault.

Mupfungidza fell to the ground and Kunaka reportedly stroke him in the head with a concrete brick and he started bleeding.

Kunaka is said to have proceeded to take the victim’s wallet containing US$407, car keys, a pair of shoes and a G-Tel Afro 726 phone.

When the Police were arriving, Kunaka is said to have given the valuables to his colleagues before he was taken to the police station where a case was opened against him.

The victim was then rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital for treatment.

The case will be back in court on the 23rd of September.
