Energy Minister Attributes Power Cuts To Malfunctioning Thermal Power Stations

Energy Minister, Advocate Fortune Chasi has said that power cuts in the country are as a result of breakdowns at the country’s power stations.

Speaking at the sidelines of a Cabinet Press briefing this week, Chasi said:

The reason why we are experiencing depressed power is because of breakdown on thermal power stations.

But we are working flat out to normalise the situation. Eskom continues to give us power as we pay them.

The country experienced an improved power presence for about a week since the announcement that ESKOM was now exporting 400 megawatts to Zimbabwe.

Local power utility, ZESA has since reverted to cutting power to the nation for very long hours. Most parts of the country are without power between 0400 hours and 22oo hours.

Meanwhile, there are reports suggesting that the Kariba South Hydropower station will be completely shut down in September or October as water in the dam is shrinking at an unparalleled rate.

Several companies from small to big have complained over power cuts saying that they were affecting business.
