Opposition MDC has said that party national organiser, Amos Chibaya has been arrested for failing to take enough steps to stop the demonstrations which were scheduled to start on the 16th of August in Harare.
Although the State blocked all the demonstrations, protesters thronged to the streets of Harare on the 16th saying demonstrations were their constitutional right.
They were later violently dispersed by police.
Posting on microblogging site, Twitter, the opposition party said:
MDC National Organiser Hon. @ has been arrested and charged with failing to take steps to stop demonstrations. He was the convener of the MDC’s proposed peaceful demonstrations in four cities that were foiled by the police after they issued four prohibition orders.
