Chitembwe Appointed Harare City F.C Head Coach

Former Warriors midfielder, Lloyd Chitembwe has left his role as Caps United head coach to join cross-town rivals Harare City FC.

Chitembwe joined the Sunshine Boys barely 24 hours after beating bitter rivals Highlanders 2-1 to close the gap to league pacesetters FC Platinum to a single point.

Following protracted negotiations with the Harare City hierarchy on Monday, Harare City spokesperson, Michael Chideme announced that Chitembwe had joined the club. He said:

Lloyd Chitembwe has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Harare City. He will be introduced to players tomorrow (today).

Chitembwe’s departure puts an end to rumours that had rumbled on for months that the club’s former captain was not happy with the Green Machine hierarchy.

Caps United president, Farai Jere, confirmed Chitembwe had moved on. He said:

As the praesidium of CAPS United, we announce that our head coach Lloyd Chitembwe has left the club and moved to Harare City.

We have had a very good working relationship with Lloyd and until the very end, his final game against Highlanders, he showed incredible professionalism and showed that his heart will always be with this club no matter where his business interests might take him.

Jere denied reports that Chitembwe had fallen out with the cub’s hierarchy and some of the players, but that he desired to leave the club.
