The Amalgamated Rural Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) has vowed to take the government head-on for the salaries of its members to be raised.
The union castigated Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube for his “heartlessness” in increasing fees on government offered services by up to 500% while refusing to increase civil servants’ salaries. ARTUZ said in a statement:
Heartless Mthuli increase prices of government offered services by up to 500% but vow to avoid wage increases. Civil servants won’t get any significant salary increase if we don’t fight for it.
Meanwhile, the union said that it will organise a protest on August 23 dubbed August Pay Day Funeral;
The banning of protests does not apply to Trade Union organised protests. Trade Unions are exempted from POSA regulations of notifying police.
Out of courtsey, we notified police of our 23 August Pay Day Funeral. The police promised us security.
