Sunday News has unmasked what it calls details of how the US Ambassador Brian Nichols encouraged the MDC protests telling them that “Washington would impose punitive measures should Government arrest or assault the protesters”
The publication went to say that Ambassador Nichols, his wife, his deputy and his wife had a meeting with Job Sikhala on Thursday where he encouraged the MDC to demonstrate according to their source who said:
In their engagement with Sikhala, the American diplomats urged the MDC to go ahead with the demonstrations until their demands were met. They assured him that the US was watching the developments and would impose punitive measures should Government arrest or assault the protesters
Sikhala reportedly took the 4 diplomats on a tour of Chitungwiza and they took photos.
Sikhala telephoned MDC national deputy secretary for international affairs, Douglas Mwonzora, to come and meet the diplomats, but the latter failed to arrive on time. Sikhala took the four diplomats on a tour of Chitungwiza. They visited Chigovanyika, Chikwanha, Huruyadzo, Makoni and Zengeza 2 shopping centres, taking photographs
This comes at a time when some Zanu PF apologists are not happy with the US ambassadors visiting abducted CSOs leader with one popular Twimbo Matigary calling him Gweshegweshe captioning a photo of the Ambassador with known opposition party members.
I had dinner with some diplomats last night.
They said they find Gweshegweshe’s behavior as an ambassador weird, unprofessional and undiplomatic. They said he behaves like an activist instead of an ambassador.
That was their opinion. @giftsiziba93 @Mavhure @larry_moyo pic.twitter.com/gDIltVQVbI
