Justice Matanda Moyo Reminds Mphoko That He Is Not Above The Law

Former Vice President, Phelekezela Mphoko is a target of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) after the former diplomat gave short shrift to detectives at his Douglasdale house in Bulawayo on Friday.

The detectives had been sent to question him with a view to recording a warned and cautioned statement, according to ZACC chairperson, Justice Loice Matanda Moyo.

In an interview with State media, Justice Matanda-Moyo warned Mphoko that he is not above the law. She said:

Yesterday (Friday), our officers visited the former VP Phelekezela Mphoko at his residence. The officers intended to question him with a view to recording a warned and cautioned statement. The matter relates to abuse of office whilst he was VP.

It is said that the former VP refused to collaborate with the enforcement officers. Unfortunately, he and those around him believe that they are above the law….no one is above the law.

Mphoko is under investigation over criminal abuse of public office. While he was still Vice President, Mphoko allegedly stormed Avondale Police Station to release former Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA) acting chief executive officer Moses Juma.

He reportedly threatened to beat junior police officers at the station if they failed to comply with his demands.
