We'll Continue Mobilising Masses, Confront Govt Using Different, Effective Strategies - CHAMISA
Leader of the opposition MDC, advocate Nelson Chamisa has said that the party called off the demonstrations only to regroup and design new effective strategies of confronting the government.
His remarks come after the party called off 16 August demonstrations after State police descended heavily on protestors who had occupied the streets.
Speaking after the demonstrations that were called off prematurely, Chamisa said that the decision to call off the protests was adopted to avoid bloodshed in the streets. He said:
We will continue to mobilise but what you are going to see is a mutation of our strategy because when you are facing a confrontational regime you must also use tactics that are going to be above them.
The police which has been heavily present in major cities around the country have reported that about ninety-one (91) people have since been arrested over the demonstrations.

The police had earlier served the convenor (MDC) with a prohibition order which was also upheld by the High Court on Friday morning.
The MDC, however, vowed to continue with the “peaceful protests” which the party described as a constitutional right for every Zimbabwean.
The main opposition Movement For Democratic Change party is holding protests over deteriorating economic conditions in the country as well as to try and force Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa to set up a transitional authority to address the crisis and organize credible elections.
