"The President Plans To Travel To Russia, China, Europe To Brief Them On Zimbabwe" - Chamisa's Spokesperson

The spokesperson of the leader of the opposition MDC, Nkululenko Sibanda has said that party leader, Nelson Chamisa intends to visit Russia, China, Europe and other Western communities on a mission to brief them on the nature of Zimbabwean crises.

His remarks come when the party’ intended demonstrations over the deterioration of the state of affairs were crushed by the police on Friday. The police had banned the protests but the opposition party supporters who were adamant that peaceful protests were a constitutional right, thronged the streets.

The opposition party is certain that Zimbabwe’s socio-economic and political crises are a result of the ruling party’s mishandling of the economy and president Mnangagwa’s illegitimacy.

MDC and the ruling ZANU PF are at loggerheads since last year when the country held harmonised elections in which the former accused the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission and ZANU PF of manipulating the results in favour of Mnangagwa.

Chamisa’s spokesperson said:

The [MDC] president is open and has plans to travel to major international centers, including Moscow and Beijing, some capitals in Europe and the West just to highlight the extent of the problem in terms of how the problem is man-made and how the problem is costing millions of lives and has threatened food security for millions of people.

Zimbabwe’s dire situation is characterised by a deficit in electricity, fuel, food, water, medicines and other essentials.

Civil society organisations have also bemoaned the shrinking of the democratic space since the ascendance of Mnangagwa to power.
