Govt Account Of What Transpired On MDC 16 August Demo In Harare

The government of Zimbabwe has given a brief summary of what transpired on the 16th of August 2019.

The day had been slated for opposition MDC demonstrations which were however called off after police started beating protesters to disperse them.

Posting on Twitter, the government, through the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services said:

From today’s skirmishes

0 deaths

Latest Tecno Pop 8 - now available in Pindula.

$94, Cash on Delivery in Harare & Bulawayo.

WhatsApp: 0783 450 793

2 Injuries

1 allegation of an assault on journalist Mr Fani Mapfumo.

Complaint has been lodged with the police. Investigation underway. 1- Case of harassment of journalist Ms Memory Chamisa. Formal apology offered by the police and accepted

There are some who believe that the government’s account does not hold a true record of what transpired as it leaves out a whole lot more other issues.

Team Pachedu, an opposition political activism online group, opined that the government was misinforming people as there were more than five confirmed injuries as a result of the actions by the Police instead of two reported above.
