Famous Zimbabwean Feminist & Author, Tsitsi Dangarembga, Shortlisted For Literary Prize By USA College

Tsitsi Dangarembga, a feminist and one of the greatest writers from Zimbabwe has been shortlisted for the St. Francis College Literary Prize. The price is a biennial literary award inaugurated in 2009.

The prize of US$50,000 is presented to a mid-career author in honor of a third to the fifth book of fiction. The winner is selected by a jury and invited to St. Francis College in Brooklyn, New York, for a speech.

Dangarembga announced on Twitter that she had been shortlisted. She said:

it’s an honour to be a finalist in this competition. I’m so grateful to the judges and all the people who gave so much to make THIS MOURNABLE BODY what it is. Wish me good fortune, folks!

Her tweet also featured a Tweet by St Francis College which revealed that finalists to the competition had been shortlisted. The tweet read as follows:

Tsitsi is no stranger to such big platforms after she was also a finalist of the  Commonwealth Writers Prize in 1989.

Dangarembga is known for her literary works such as She No Longer Weeps, Nervous Conditions, This Mournable Body, among others.

Tsitsi also wrote a local 1983 film, Neria, which featured the late legendary musician, Dr Oliver Mtukudzi.
