After the High Court upheld the police ban on the MDC demonstration in Harare, the party’s Vice President Tendai Biti has announced that the party has called off the demonstration.
The High Court ruling this morning dismissed an application by MDC to allow the demonstration to take place today. The police argued in court that it did not have enough manpower as it has already assigned its officers to the Harare Agriculture Show.
Biti however said the party would proceed with other planned marches in Bulawayo, Gweru, and Mutare next week.
Spokesperson Daniel Molokele told journalists after the High Court hearing that MDC supporters should enjoy the ‘state-sponsored’ stay away by staying safely at home
