New Twist To NSSA/MetBank Corruption Case

Metbank is reported to have instituted a $100 million lawsuit against BDO Zimbabwe Chartered Accountants and the National Social Security Authority (NSSA) for defamation after the defendants allegedly made false reports about the financial institution.

The lawsuit follows a NSSA forensic audit report authored and published by BDO Zimbabwe Chartered Accountants and NSSA which implicates Metbank in corruption scandals that prejudiced the Association of millions of dollars.

Metbank argues that the report did not constitute what transpired hence false and defamatory as well as damaging to the good reputation of the bank. Part of the claim read:

The plaintiff, being a banking institution and law-abiding corporate citizen’s reputation was maliciously impaired by the reports which were false and intended to injure its reputation.

As a result the defendants unlawful conduct. . . the plaintiff has suffered damages in the sum of $100 000 000.

The report which also implicates the jailed Tourism Minister, Priscah Mupfumira, contends that Metbank benefitted from bad governance by Mupfumira who reportedly exerted pressure on the NSSA to award certain favours to unmerited individuals and companies.
