The MDC has announced that its chair for Ward 4 in Epworth suburb was abducted and assaulted by suspected state agents. Posting on microblogging site, Twitter, the opposition party said:
ALERT : Cosmas Mashwa, an MDC Alliance chair of ward 4 in Epworth suburb was visited by suspected state agents at his home and was badly assaulted and abducted. This took place last night Wednesday 14th August 2019 at about 11.45hrs. Cosmas whereabouts are not known.
Three other people who were in the house were also badly beaten. It is suspected that the abduction has to do with the 16th August 2019 MDC march. Human Rights Lawyers have been notified for legal assistance
The abductions bring the total number of abducted people to three within 48 hours following the abduction of human rights defender, Tatenda Mombeyarara and MDC Youth Chairperson for Mufakose District, Blessing Kanotunga during early hours of Wednesday.
The abductions are reportedly linked to the MDC demonstration slated for the 16th of this month. It is alleged that the individuals who are being abducted have been instrumental in the planning and organisation of the anticipated protests.
The abductions have since been condemned by human rights activists and also by the United States of America.

Cde Nelson where are the cameras and security marshalls
they are acting! kidnapping and assaulting each other for political mileage. we’ve seen a brazen staged kidnapping by the 8 gun men that has been scoffed at by anyone credible enough to make a thorough logical analysis of events. they might thnk themselves clever playing to an already adversarial audience bt are foolish enough to trample on their own name.
Typical Zanu PF government operatives tactics inherited from the colonial days of Ian Douglas Smith and have been used excessively and incessantly by Zanu PF and its functionaries over these years, even amongst themselves
