“Eskom Power Doesn’t Eliminate Load Shedding” – ZESA

Zimbabwe’s power utility company, ZESA has said that though the newly opened electricity import line with South Africa’s Eskom helps, it does not eliminate load shedding. The company said that the main problem is the drastically reduced power generation capability at Kariba Dam and that importing from Eskom doesn’t make up for the Kariba deficit.

Zimbabweans have expressed hope that the severe power load shedding will come to an end following confirmation that Zimbabwe is now getting 400MW of power from Eskom.

Said ZESA on Twitter:

“Whilst we have Eskom power, the reason for load shedding is low water levels at Kariba which was generating 1050MW and is now down to 277MW. Eskom power doesn’t eliminate load shedding. It just reduces it to manageable and bearable levels”

ZESA has not released a new load shedding schedule since the Eskom import resumption.

Load shedding started in May 2019 and was upgraded to level 2 severe load shedding in mid-June.

  1. Zesa are con artists. So far we remain on 18 hour load shedding. Power imports are for them, their mates, and the elite. Fuck them all.

  2. Did they even get the extra Megawatts or it was just one of the govt’s usual publicity stance. South african corrupt politicians will be willing to play along with their zim counterpart’s stunts so long as it does not culminate in giving real electricity to zim, escom just doesnt have the extra capacity to support zim, it is load-shedding its own citizens

  3. How much money are you all loosing while there is no zesa. No power no revenue for zesa. Stop stealing from the parastratals and spending on luxury cars and invest in energy generating projects.
