MDC MP Acquitted Of Public Violence Charges, Subversion Charges Remain Intact

MDC legislator for Mbizo, Settlement Chikwinya, has been acquitted public violence charges.

Chikwinya still stands accused of subverting constitutional government as defined in section 22 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, following anti-government protests held across the country in January.

The January demonstrations degenerated into chaos with some protesters reportedly looting from shops and vandalising properties.

The government then deployed the army to squash the demonstrations which had been spiked by a fuel price hike.

The army reportedly visited citizens in their homes, uninvited, at ungodly hours, shot and killed, sexually harassed some and also tortured scores of them.
