MDC Suspects High Level Political Interference In Court Cases

MDC led by advocate Nelson Chamisa has expressed concern over suspected political interference in court cases of its members.

Party Spokesperson, Daniel Molokele said that the believes that bail conditions imposed on party Youth Assembly Secretary-General Gift Ostalos Siziba could have been different if there was no interference by political elites. Molokele said:

MDC is unhappy about the new bail conditions that have been imposed on our Youth Assembly Secretary-General Gift Ostalos Siziba and we suspect there has been a high level of political interference in his case.

It is the State’s case that Siziba incited violence against the government after he allegedly instructed youths to burn tires to block roads during anticipated demonstrations.

The court ordered Siziba to report to the police three times a week and to surrender his travelling documents to the clerk of courts.

The MDC is worried because the court had initially ordered to surrender his passport.

The MDC has often alleged that Zimbabwean courts are “captured” by the ruling ZANU PF. These allegations were more pronounced during last year’s disputed elections which the MDC  claimed to have won.

The Constitutional court however declared ZANU PF presidential candidate, Emmerson Mnangagwa the winner saying that the MDC lacked compelling evidence to suggest that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission had manipulated the election in favour of the ruling ZANU PF.
