ZINARA Responds To "Vehicle Licence Fees To Rise" Reports

The Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara) has dismissed reports suggesting that from 01 August 2019, vehicle licence fees will be increased by about 500%.

Speaking to the Chronicle on Wednesday, Zinara spokesperson, Mr Augustine Moyo, dismissed the message which circulated on social media on Tuesday saying that motorists would be informed of a change in licence fees well in advance. Mr Moyo said:

It has come to the attention of Zinara that there are social media reports circulating regarding an imminent increase of vehicle licence fees by more than 500 percent.

Zinara is a parastatal under the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development and as such any upward review in the vehicle licence tariffs will be formally communicated to Zinara by the parent Ministry.

Motorists were panicking over the message which sounded legit considering that prices and charges of almost everything have been going up in the country.

Despite this assurance, motorists will find it hard to take ZINARA’s word for it considering inconsistencies in statements by government officials and institutions.

Recently, the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority reviewed up fuel prices six days after a fake message had circulated on social media.
