The Time Is Still Not Yet Right For Confrontation With Govt - MDC

The MDC led by advocate Nelson Chamisa has said that the time is not yet ripe for a confrontation with the government. This was revealed by the party spokesperson, Daniel Molokele, in an interview with News Day senior reporter, Obey Munyati. Bringing Chamisa’s remarks into remembrance, Molokele said that the party would not be pressured into taking action prematurely. He said that the party was preoccupied with intraparty issues which needed to be dealt with. Below are excerpts from the interview.

ND: The MDC has been threatening to mount pressure on the Zanu PF-led government, but none of that has happened as of now. Some of your supporters are claiming that they are losing patience over your non-action. What can you say about this?

DM: Our leadership is in constant consultation with our structures, and as far as they are concerned, the time is still not yet right. We are still busy resolving some issues internally first, such as the setting up of the new local branches.

The MDC is not guided by the loud voices of social media-based armchair critics. It is influenced by its elected representatives across all its structures.

His remarks come after the MDC embarked on a nationwide support mobilisation drive which is also meant to gauge the mood of the citizenry concerning the economic crisis and likely measures to be taken.

MDC accuses President Mnangagwa’s government of creating the crisis through mismanagement of national resources. The party also claims that the legitimacy issue is making the country ungovernable.
