In the wake of bread shortages, attributed to the scarcity of grain in Zimbabwe, the ruling ZANU PF has come up with alternatives which others have described as ‘ridiculous’. The party rolled out community bakeries which have so far produced substandard bread, before closing 24 hours after launch. In the most recent development, which others described as dragging the nation “back to the stone age”, ZANU PF reportedly allowed the ‘community bakeries’ look-alike to be erected at the party’s headquarters in Harare. The country has, since the turn of the millennium been struggling to produce the required 400 00 metric tonnes of wheat.
