“President Mnangagwa Delivers On Election Promises, Particularly On Health” – The Herald

The Herald has reported that president Emmerson Mnangagwa has covered much ground in fulfilling his election promises.

The publication reports after the president has reiterated the necessity of modernising local medical institutions in line with the ZANU PF election manifesto.

He was speaking at the 331st Ordinary Session of the Politburo in Harare last week where he revealed also that he had handed over an assortment of medical equipment and medicines to hospitals. He said:

While our initial focus is on central hospitals, the next phase will equally ensure that the provincial and district health facilities are appropriately equipped and resourced.

During the course of the month, I was pleased to hand over an assortment of medical equipment and drugs to the Ministry of Health and Child Care, which we purchased from India.

We have since received a large consignment from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) which will also be distributed to hospitals throughout the country.

As you will recall, our promise to turn around our country’s health delivery system is clearly articulated in the manifesto. Hence, our initiatives must be seen in that context.

The arrival of health equipment and medicines followed a meeting between Mnangagwa and some senior doctors at the State House where they revealed that modernising local medical institutions was very urgent.

The health sector is in a terrible state after years of neglect with Treasury allocating more votes (resources) to the security sector.

Resultantly, local medical institutions are dilapidated, forcing political elites to seek medical attention abroad.
