ZANU PF youths have applauded the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission for standing up firmly against corruption.
Their remarks come after ZACC arrested Tourism Minister, Priscah Mupfumira on seven accounts of corruption and criminal abuse of office including US$97 million NSSA funds.
Speaking to The Sunday Mail Speaking on the sidelines of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Collaborators’ Association (Zilwaco) national conference in Gweru yesterday, deputy youth secretary, Lewis Matutu, said:
This is something that was long overdue. What we are saying is that each and every person involved in corruption must be arrested. We are also saying people must be accountable as leaders and we are not backing off on that fight.
Our people are poor not because the Government is not making effort to transform their lives for the better, but our people are poor because a few individuals are stealing those few resources that are there and making them their own and their families.
Matutu said that the developments serve to inform others that president Emmerson Mnangagwa was serious about fighting corruption.
Analysts, among them, University of Zimbabwe Political Science lecturer, Eldred Masunungure, have been saying that that President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s anti-corruption rhetoric lacks real action to back it.
ZANU PF Youth League boss, Pupurai Togarepi, said that they had a long list of suspected corrupt people. He said that they will continue naming and shaming corrupt Government and party officials. He promised that in a few days time, the youth league will again name other corrupt individuals.
