Unki Hands Over Water Pump To Gweru City Council

Platinum mining giant, Unki Mines, has donated a new water pump to Gweru City Council following severe water challenges facing the Midlands capital.

The water pumps at the city’s main source of water, Gwenhoro Dam are now too old resulting in limited pumping capacity.

The development was confirmed by Gweru mayor Josiah Makombe in an interview with Southern Eye on Wednesday. He said:

We have secured a new water pump from Unki Mine. We are very excited as the council because it will go a long way in easing the water crisis that we are facing.

Makombe revealed that the city is set to draw water from Amapongogwe Dam as the water level in Gwenhoro Dam has receded. He said:

Our water treatment plant remains at Gwenhoro farm, even though we will now be draining the precious liquid from Amapongogwe Dam since Gwenhoro Dam is running dry.

The pump we got from Unki Mine will not be able to provide adequate amounts of water we require, but it’s a step in the right direction and we will continue to source for more equipment.
