AFCON: Algeria Beat Senegal To Lift The Trophy

Algeria has beaten Senegal to lift the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations Finals Cup in Cairo, Egypt.

The only goal of the night came from Baghdad Bounedjah just 79 seconds into the first half of the match. The goal threw the Algerian bench into wild celebrations.

Algeria was defensive throughout the game as Senegal sought to equalise particularly in the second half. Senegal began to find their feet in the game later as Mbaye Niang went close with a fierce drive from 20 yards which cleared the crossbar by a matter of inches.

Liverpool forward, Sadio Mane, was fortunate not to be given marching orders after appearing to throw an elbow into the torso of Sofiane Feghouli before a corner was about to be taken.

The referee however ignored the issue and ordered the play to continue.

In the second half, Senegal looked more hungry for scores. They nearly realised their wishes as the referee awarded them a penalty kick. He, however, reversed the decision after consulting TV screen and the Video Assisted Referees (VAR).

The Lions of Teranga continued threatening for an equaliser with Niang missing a golden chance after rounding the goalkeeper only to fire into the side netting.

Their efforts were fruitless as the Fennecs of Nigeria held firm despite being pinned to the edge of their area as they clinched a famous victory in Cairo.
