MDC Alliance Summons Bulawayo Councillors To Harvest House

The Nelson Chamisa-led MDC has summoned its councillors in Bulawayo to Harare following an attempted suspension of the Town Clerk, Christopher Dube, by Deputy Mayor Tinashe Kambarami.

Reports indicate that Dube was forcibly removed from office by last Thursday by Silas Chigora, a Ward councillor.

Kambarami and Chigora were arrested and appeared in court on Saturday and are out on bail after the Town Clerk laid an assault charge against them.

Dube was reinstated by Mayor Solomon Mguni, who was out of office when Dube was suspended.

One of the MDC Alliance councillors who spoke to Sunday News said:

We were initially told that we are required at Harvest House (MDC headquarters) on Wednesday morning of which we notified them that we could not make it as the message got to us late on Tuesday.

The meeting is now set for Thursday morning, as it is I am travelling to Harare. As for the gist of the meeting we are being told it’s to do with the stunt by the deputy mayor and other councillors to try to suspend the town clerk.
