"MDC Has Been Taking People For Granted With Empty Promises,’’ Mandiwanzira
Zanu-PF MP for Nyanga South Constituency has attributed the loss of the opposition MDC led by advocate Nelson Chamisa in the recently held by-elections to the party’s failure to fulfil election time promises.
His remarks come after ZANU PF claimed victory in both the Nyanga South Ward 26 and Bikita East Ward 31 by-elections.
The former Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services now ICT and Cyber Security, Mandiwanzira said:
I’m very happy because we have snatched this victory away from the opposition who have held this seat for many, many years and the reason why this has happened is that the people in Nyanga recognised only Zanu-PF has the capacity to address the economic challenges they are facing. For too long, MDC has been taking the people for granted with empty promises.
Some in the ruling party believe that the reforms which the government embarked on played a significant role in the by-elections. They also warned that the results were a shadow of what was coming in the national harmonised elections scheduled for 2023.

Speaking on the results, former Mines Minister, and ZANU PF secretary for administration, Obert Mpofu said:
This is a wake-up call to the MDC. . . when it comes to democratic issues in that all these victories were free and fair voting by the people who appreciate policies which are people-oriented.
Meanwhile, the MDC has rejected the outcome arguing that the elections were marred by various irregularities including vote-buying and intimidation of the electorate.
