UPDATE: Over Hundred Families Of ZANU PF Supporters Fight Eviction At Bromley

Hundreds of former farm workers at Bromley Farm reportedly attacked the High Court Sheriff who was evicting them to pave way for a new owner. They have been resisting eviction since 2011 when the new owner, Samson Chauruka, reportedly bought it.

The News Day reports that the Sheriff had successfully evicted all the occupants on Friday but they returned at night and re-occupied their homes. Chaos is said to have started when a grader came to demolish the buildings. The publication reports that the settlers returned to the compound and attacked the Sheriff.

The families, most of them wearing Zanu PF regalia, reportedly threw stones, hit the Sheriff’s vehicle and overpowered the anti-riot police, while vehicles of the new owners were also stoned.

In 2012, a government gazette announced that the government was taking over the land from Samson Chauruka who had pushed former farm workers out of Bromley Farm after taking over the property from Leslie Lombard, who in 2012 resorted to staying at a Marondera old people’s home. This is said was after the intervention of former president, Robert Mugabe. Part of the notice read:

These families reportedly applied a court application at the High Court last month seeking to bar the imminent eviction but the application was thrown out on the basis that it was not urgent.
