"Others Are Saying There Is Too Much Democracy In Zimbabwe," SB Moyo

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Sibusiso B Moyo has claimed that Zimbabwe is better than what the media is portraying. He said that there are some who think people are being shot every day everywhere which is not true.

Addressing Zimbabweans at the Zimbabwean Embassy in the UK, Moyo said that Zimbabwe thrives to enhance the rule of law. Moyo said, as such, contrary to expectations by some that some personalities must not be touched, the law will be applied equally. He said that some perceive the arrest of civil society members as synonymous with violation of human rights, is not true.

His remarks come as several members of civil society organisations and opposition parties were in recent weeks arrested. Most of them were charged with subversion of a constitutionally elected government.

Most recently, MDC national vice-chairperson, Job Sikhala, was arrested and charged with subversion after he remarked that his party was planning to overthrow the Mnangagwa led government before 2023. He was remanded in prison on Thursday and the case will be back in court on the 24th of July. Sikhala immediately made public plans to apply for bail at the High Court.

Sikhala is the 21st person to be charged with subversion since January this year.
