A woman from Mutare drowned in a dam near Chikanga last week after she fell into the water during some ritual acts. Bridget Mangazi’s body was found floating by a passer-by who alerted the police. It is believed Bridget and her friends went to the dam near Chikanga one of the high-density suburbs in Mutare, to perform some rituals. In the process, Bridget fell and drowned. Her friends instead of helping her went to alert her parents about the incident the Manica post reports:
“Bridget had gone to the dam with four other women to perform some traditional rituals and she went near the dam to relieve herself. In the process she slipped and fell in the dam and drowned,” said Insp Kakohwa.
He said her friends, instead of helping her out, rushed to Himalaya in Chief Zimunya’s area to alert the deceased’s parents as they believed that a mermaid had snatched her.
