Mangudya In A Quandary Over ZANU PF Lawsuit

A legal commentator has said that Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor John Mangudya would be improperly before the courts if he does not sue ZANU PF  following accusations of corruption levelled against him by the Youth League.

ZANU PF Youth League deputy secretary Lewis Matutu told a press conference that Mangudya, among other party officials, was sabotaging the country’s economy through corrupt dealings.

In response, Mangudya demanded $1 million compensation defamation from the Youth League.

Speaking to NewsDay, Midlands State University law lecturer Valentine Mutatu said:

There is an issue of vicarious liability, in the same manner that his lawyers cited Togarepi who was not part of the press conference, he should have cited Zanu PF, given that Matutu is an employee of Zanu PF.

The youth league is an arm of Zanu PF and the Press conference was held at the party headquarters.

Unless there are special circumstances, the lawsuit would be amiss if Zanu PF is not included.

Matutu told the publication that the youths have troves of evidence enough to nail the named officials.

He added that those “named and shamed” should not focus on the Youth League only but should take on the party as a whole.
