“Macauley Bonne Would Have Made A Big Difference To Our Campaign”

Marshall Gore, the man who tried vigorously to get Macauley Bonne to play for Zimbabwe has said had the ‘next Jammie Vardy’ played at the 2019 Total AFCON finals, Zimbabwe could have performed better.

His remarks came as the Warriors were preparing to return home yesterday after embarrassingly crashing out of the tournament. They displayed the worst of performances since making their debut at this football festival 15 years ago. They were at the bottom of Group A log with only one point and one goal with Khama Billiat on target against Uganda.

The team missed a lot of golden chances which Gore believes Bonne could have easily converted into the net given that he is a hotshot and natural striker. However, Bonne was not part of the team that participated at the tournament after he failed who secure a Zimbabwean passport.

Speaking on Bonne, Gore said Zimbabwe could still be in the competition if Bonne had played. He said:

When you look at our group, all we needed was just one win and we would have been through to the next round and I think we had chances against Uganda and no one knows what a player like Bonne would have done in terms of making a big difference.

Bonne who now plays for Charlton Athletic scored 23 goals last season and scored 44 in the last two seasons. His contract has a clause which would have him joining Leicester City if he scores a minimum of 15 goals this season.
